Indonesia calls for (the two sides) to focus on cooperation in its country program with UNIDO and thereafter, accelerate Industry 4.0 in Indonesia's five priority industrial sectors.
London (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is encouraging cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to expedite Industry 4.0 adoption and improve the competitiveness of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Indonesian Ambassador to the UN in Vienna, Dr. Darmansjah Djumala, made the remarks at the 36th meeting of the UNIDO Program and Budget Committee, held in Vienna on Tuesday and Wednesday.

At the meeting, the ambassador highlighted the significance of the cooperation between the two sides.

“Indonesia calls for (the two sides) to focus on cooperation in its country program with UNIDO and thereafter, accelerate Industry 4.0 in Indonesia's five priority industrial sectors,” he said.

In the field of MSMEs, Indonesia has established cooperation with UNIDO in the fishery sector. Through the SMART-FISH (Sustainable Market Access through Responsible Trading of Fish) project funded by the Swiss government, UNIDO has helped Indonesian MSMEs in meeting international export standards, he noted.

By meeting international standards, Indonesian MSMEs are expected to increase their exports of aquatic products, he added.

The ambassador said Indonesia realizes the difficulties posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the implementation of UNIDO projects.

International cooperation and commitment are sorely needed to deal with the pandemic, he said. UNIDO projects that have come to a standstill due to the pandemic can hopefully be continued after the situation returns to normal, he added.

The meeting of the UNIDO Program and Budget Committee is one of three important meetings held annually. Indonesia is one of the 17 UNIDO member states and has been appointed a member of the committee for the 2019-2021 term.
