Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Yogyakarta Special Province has set up a cyber security team — Jogjaprov Computer Security Incident Response Team (Jogjaprov-CSIRT) — to anticipate and thwart any cyber attacks on the government's computer systems.

“The security of the government's website must be guarded well for the sake of accountability and public confidence in the substance of information made available,” Governor of Yogyakarta Special Province, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, said during the virtual launch of Jogjaprov-CSIRT here on Wednesday.

Jogjaprov-CSIRT is a manifestation of the provincial government’s commitment to protect data and information managed by the government, the governor said in his address, which was read out by chief of the Yogyakarta provincial communication and information office, Rony Promantoro Hari.

Yogyakarta is one of the 10 Indonesian provinces earmarked by the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) for setting up CSIRTs.

In performing its duties, Jogjaprov-CSIRT will accord priority to the spirit of collaboration and mutual help among agencies within the Yogyakarta Special Province, the governor said.

The cyber security team comprises representatives of the provincial government, district and municipal governments in the province, the military district command, the provincial police, and the provincial prosecutor's office.

“On this occasion, I call on all elements of the community to be aware of the importance of securing personal data and reporting it to Jogjaprov CSIRT, if they find something awkward or unfair on the website or applications managed by the government,” the governor said.

The rapid development in the use of electronic devices and networks in various modes of communication has made information and data vulnerable to cyber threats, he remarked.
