"ETLE cameras at 12 locations were found to have been damaged," Traffic Director of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Police Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yogo, stated in Bekasi, West Java, on Friday.
Yogo revealed that currently, all damaged camera units are under repair and will be made operational in the near future.
Most of the cameras damaged to varying degrees were found on the MH Thamrin Street down to Sudirman Street.
"The panels of some of them were broken, while some were shifted and their positions changed. The wires of some of them were cut off, among other (damages)," he stated.
The perpetrators were believed to be rioters and provocateurs, who had infiltrated the demonstration that was initially held peacefully but then took a chaotic turn owing to the intruders' actions.
Several perpetrators suspected of vandalism have currently been arrested by the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the Jakarta Metro Police, and investigations are ongoing to find the other perpetrators.
"(The perpetrators) are yet being subject to investigation and several were arrested yesterday and were exposed. (This is) still a part of it," he added. Related news: Jakarta Office collects 398-ton garbage left behind in mass rallies
