Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo bestowed national hero titles on six different figures from the State Palace in Jakarta, Tuesday, following the issuance of Presidential Decree Number 117 TK of 2020, effective November 6.

The six figures comprise the late Sultan Baabullah from North Maluku Province, the late Machmud Singgirei Rumagesan from West Papua, and DKI Jakarta's late Retired Police General Raden Said Soekanto Tjokrodiatmodjo.

North Sulawesi's late Arnold Mononutu, North Sumatra's late Mr Sutan Mohammad Amin Nasution, and the late Raden Mattaher Bin Pangeran Kusen Bin Adi, a figure from Jambi Province, were also awarded the title of national heroes.

"Those whose names are attached in the annex are hereby conferred the title of national hero as a high honor and respect for their outstanding services, who during their lifetime led and carried out armed struggles or political struggles or struggles in other fields to achieve, seize, defend, and fill independence and materializing the unity and integrity of the nation," according to the Presidential Decree.

President Widodo bestowed the titles on the late figures during a corresponding ceremony at the State Palace, in which the attendees also comprised Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, and Social Minister Juliari Batubara.

The ceremony was followed by prayers recited by Religious Affairs Minister Fachrul Razi and President Widodo's greetings of congratulations to the figures' heirs, who also attended the ceremony. Related news: President leads devotional visit ceremony at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery
