I believe that when data on the national energy mix in 2020 is completed, the share of renewable energy can be higher.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) highlighted the significant increase in the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix during the past three years.

"We should laud this, especially in the past three years from 2017 to 2019 that the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix has increased significantly," Research Director of Indef Berly Martawardaya noted during a virtual discussion here on Friday.

Martawardaya remarked that the share of renewable energy in 2017 had reached 6.34 percent, and it rose to eight percent in 2018 and 9.15 percent in 2019.

"I believe that when data on the national energy mix in 2020 is completed, the share of renewable energy can be higher," he remarked.

According to the Indef research director, within the next few years, the price of wind-generated and solar energy are projected to be cheaper than coal and diesel-based.

Indonesia is targeting to achieve 23-percent renewable energy use by 2025 and 31 percent by 2050.

Director of Renewable Energy of the Energy and Mineral Resource Ministry Harris Yahya earlier noted that the government had provided incentive to encourage investment in the solar roof power plant.

Yahya highlighted that varied efforts were made to boost investment in renewable energy by creating its market, improving management in the development of renewable energy, conducting massive development of renewable energy-based power plant, and providing incentive and investment facility.

The government has also revised the regulation to increase the use of solar power to cover 70 million consumers.

"We are optimistic that more business operators would use the solar roof power plant," he stated. Related news: Renewable shares in energy mix targeted in 2020
