Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is optimistic that Muhammadiyah, Indonesia's second-largest Muslim organization, would help to combat various hoaxes circulating about COVID-19, including those pertaining to vaccines.

"I am upbeat about Muhammadiyah being able to help provide the right explanation and understanding, so that the public does not get false information or harmful hoaxes," Jokowi stated in his online remarks delivered on the occasion of Muhammadiyah's 108th anniversary here on Wednesday.

The president noted that the government was currently working in a careful, apt, and thorough manner in preparing the COVID-19 vaccines. Antivirals can aid in Indonesia’s immediate recovery and help it to rise up through safe vaccines, he added.

The head of state believes that vaccine safety also takes into account other aspects, specifically halal and distribution.

"Ensuring public access to vaccines that are safe, effective, and halal-certified," he stated.

Chairman of the Central Executive Board of Muhamamdiyah Haedar Nashir stated that the COVID-19 pandemic had not ended and claimed several lives.

All from Muhammadiyah should always provide benefits and become problem solvers, he added.

Every individual must remain disciplined and vigilant and avoid being careless and acting irresponsibly that can exacerbate the spread of COVID-19 in the public, he remarked.

"Allah forbids anyone from doing damage. Follow the example of the Prophet, who had fulfilled his missions and perfected noble morals as well as brought grace for the universe," he stated.

The Indonesian Government is expected to commence COVID-19 vaccination in the third week of December 2020.
