Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) ended higher on Wednesday as foreign investors continued to buy shares.

The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) closed 27.58 points higher, up 0.5 percent, at 5,557.52, while the index of the 45 most liquid stocks (LQ45) rose 3.84 points, or 0.44 percent, to touch 885.65.

Bina Artha Sekuritas analyst M. Nafan Aji Gusta stated that investors lauded the effective global development of the COVID-19 vaccine.

"The effect of Biden-Harris' victory is still in place. The market also praised the statement by (Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment) Luhut Pandjaitan that LG Chem Ltd. will ink an investment agreement this week to build an EV battery plant in Indonesia," he stated.

After opening higher, the IHSG remained in the green territory until the close of trade.

Stocks in six sectors rose, led by the mining sector that increased 1.36 percent, followed by the financial sector and the infrastructure sector, which climbed 0.94 percent and 0.52 percent, respectively.

However, stocks in four sectors recorded a correction, with the agricultural sector deepening its fall by minus 0.96 percent, followed by the trade sector and the miscellaneous industry, at minus 0.34 percent and minus 0.24 percent, respectively.

Wednesday’s trade posted net foreign buys of Rp722.31 billion.

A total of 913,561 transactions were recorded on Wednesday, with 17.35 billion shares, worth Rp12.26 trillion, changing hands. Meanwhile, 232 shares rose, 210 shares fell, and 175 shares remained unchanged.

In the Asian regional markets, the Nikkei Index plunged 286.48 points, or 1.1 percent, to reach 25,728.14; the Hang Seng Index swelled 129.2 points, or 0.49 percent, to 26,544.29; and the Straits Times Index rose 7.97 points, or 0.29 percent, to reach 2,786.52.
