Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo affirmed that the government respects the legal process currently underway at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to handle a case involving a state official.

"We respect the legal process that is ongoing at the KPK. I believe the KPK works transparently, openly, and professionally," Widodo stated at the Merdeka Palace here on Wednesday.

The president echoed the government’s unwavering support to any endeavor to prevent and eradicate corruption in the country.

"The government consistently supports corruption prevention and eradication efforts," he affirmed.

Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Edhy Prabowo was taken into arrest by the KPK on charge of involvement in a graft case related to export licensing of baby lobsters.

"He is allegedly involved in a corruption case related to the export licensing of baby lobsters," KPK Chief Firli Bahuri noted in a statement released in Jakarta on Wednesday.

A KPK team arrested Prabowo at Terminal 3 of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang shortly after arriving from Honolulu, the US, on Tuesday night, he remarked.

Bahuri revealed that the Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party politician was currently being questioned at the KPK Building in Jakarta.

"At this moment, he is being questioned at the KPK. We will issue an official statement from the KPK. Give the enforcement team an opportunity to work first," he added.
