Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - A fire gutted 36 homes in a densely-populated area in Medan, the provincial capital of North Sumatra, on Wednesday. No injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident.

"A total of 36 homes and a place of worship caught fire," spokesperson for the Medan City Disaster Mitigation Office, Nuly, said.

"The 36 houses were 10-80 percent burned, while the mosque was less than 10 percent burned," he informed.

The fire, which broke out at 3.50 p.m on Wednesday, was successfully put out, he said adding, its cause is still being investigated.
