Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA) - The Nias Police arrested a woman, MT, 30, a resident of Banua Sibohou Village, North Nias District, North Sumatra Province, for slaying her three infants aged five, four, and two years respectively.

"From the location, the police officers confiscated a machete used by the perpetrator to kill her three children," First Adjunct Inspector Yansen Hulu, the spokesman of Nias Police, stated here on Thursday (Dec 10).

MT killed her three sons identified by their initials as YL (5), SL (4), and DL (2) due to economic problems, he revealed.

The murder took place on Wednesday (Dec 9) at around 1:30 p.m. local time when the victims' grandfather, grandmother, father, and eldest brother left for a polling station to cast their ballots in the simultaneous regional head elections (pilkada) held on Dec 9, 2020.

On returning home, they were aghast at seeing the three boys murdered sadistically, while the mother, with a machete, laid next to the dead bodies of the three sons.

"From the results of examination of several witnesses, it is believed that economic pressure was the reason behind the woman killing her three children," the police officer stated.
