Be watchful for the November inflation caused by the start of the rainy season and the long holidays some time ago. The weather may also hinder the distribution of goods to consumers
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI) has recorded an inflation of 0.30 percent based on the results of a survey on the development of commodity prices until the second week of December, 2020.

Based on the price trend, the yearly inflation in 2020 is projected to reach 1.54 percent, chief of BI’s communication department, Erwin Haryono, said in a statement released on Friday.

Several commodities contributed to the two-weekly inflation rate, with the prices of red chili rising 0.07 percent, purebred chicken eggs 0.04 percent, bird eye chili and tomato 0.03 percent each, and cooking oil, orange, purebred chicken meat, carrot, and air tickets 0.01 percent each.

Meanwhile, some commodities contributed to the deflationary pressure, with the price of gold jewelry sliding 0.06 percent and onion declining 0.01 percent.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) had announced earlier that the spiraling prices of several commodities drove up Indonesia's inflation to 0.28 percent in November this year.

Speaking here on Tuesday (December 1, 2020), BPS deputy head of distribution and service statistics, Setianto, had attributed the hike in prices to the disruption in supplies at the start of the rainy season.

"Be watchful for the November inflation caused by the start of the rainy season and the long holidays some time ago. The weather may also hinder the distribution of goods to consumers," he said.

The contribution of food and beverages and tobacco to inflation was the highest at 0.86 percent, he informed.

"This price hike could be seen from foodstuffs, including purebred chicken meat, purebred chicken eggs, red chili, and onions, contributing to inflation," he said.

The other groups of spending that contributed to the inflation were healthcare (0.32 percent), transportation (0.30 percent), and, clothing and footwear (0.14 percent).

However, the personal care and other services group contributed 0.23 percent to deflation, and the group of housing, water, electrical power, and household fuels 0.04 percent.

Setianto said 83 of the 90 cities surveyed recorded an inflation, with Tual reporting the highest inflation at 1.15 percent and Bima the lowest at 0.01 percent.

Meanwhile, seven cities recorded a deflation, with the highest figure of 0.22 percent recorded in Kendari and the lowest of 0.01 percent registered in Meulaboh and Palopo.

The November inflation has brought the calendar inflation to 1.23 percent and year-on-year inflation to 1.59 percent, Setianto said. (INE)
