Jakarta (ANTARA) - The police are interrogating several witnesses in connection with a minor explosion on DR Kusumaatmadja Street in Menteng area, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday.

"No (injuries or fatalities) were reported. We are interrogating several witnesses," Chief of the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police Senior Commissioner Heru Novianto remarked here on Wednesday night.

The interrogation was conducted to bring to light the characteristics of the culprit, for which the police will take time to conduct an in-depth investigation, he remarked.

Novianto noted that the Gegana bomb squad of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police's Mobile Brigade Units had been dispatched to the scene to gather evidence.

He believed the blast was caused by low-explosive material since it caused no material damage or fatalities at the scene.

"I am optimistic that the press would await the result of the investigation," he stated.

It was reported earlier that an explosion occurred near the KAMI Office on Dr Kusumaatmaja Street No.76, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Putri, a staff member of KAMI, spoke of having spotted two unidentified people wandering in front of the KAMI office at around 11:30 a.m. local time before the blast occurred.

One of the two men later came close to the fence, while the other, wearing a green jacket, attempted to hurl explosives at the office but to no avail.

The explosive hit the fence corner, so there was no resulting loss of lives or material damage.
