Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo has said asset redistribution is the solution for agrarian disputes in Indonesia. Therefore, the government has been paying special attention to asset redistribution for the last five years.

"Why? This is related to poverty, this is related to economic inequality, especially that [which] occurs in rural areas and areas around forests. Redistribution of assets is also an answer to the many agrarian disputes," the President said here on Thursday.

The problems have been similar whenever he has visited disputed areas or other areas of land conflict, he said during the handing over ceremony of Customary Forest Decrees, Social Forest Decrees and Land Decrees for Agrarian Reform (SK TORA) from the State Palace.

Therefore, he said, asset redistribution could be one of the answers to existing agrarian disputes.

"Whether it's between the community and companies, or the community and the government," the President remarked.

To resolve the problem, the government is continuing to encourage the redistribution of these assets through both social forestry policies and agrarian reform.

On Thursday, 2,929 social forestry decrees, covering an area of 3,442 thousand hectares, were handed out across the country.

The President said he hoped the effort will benefit approximately 651 thousand households in addition to 35 SK TORA covering 37,500 hectares and 58 SK TORA totaling 72 thousand hectares in 17 provinces.
