"On January 21 (2021), the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur facilitated the repatriation of 56 migrant workers after it had settled their cases. Of the total, 54 were flown to Jakarta and two others — a mother and child — were flown to Medan,” the embassy's coordinator for information, social and cultural function, Yoshi Iskandar, said in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.
The embassy helped the migrant workers employed in Malaysia settle their cases, issued travel documents in lieu of passports (SPLP) to them, and assisted them in securing administrative documents from the Malaysian immigration office for the purpose of repatriation.
He said the embassy is focusing on providing services during the movement control order (MCO) period by abiding by the health protocols. The move is a manifestation of information support for the public to receive support, particularly with regard to the return recalibration program and labor recalibration program, he added.
Meanwhile, the embassy's coordinator for consular function, Rijal Al Huda, said 49 of the repatriated Indonesian citizens had been given shelter at the embassy.
"They can be given shelter for a maximum of eight months," he said. (INE)
