PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono noted in a statement here on Wednesday that the revitalization and development of traditional markets reflected the government's attention to traders and commitment to economic recovery.
"The benefits of quality market infrastructure are expected to be felt directly, especially by ensuring the distribution of staple goods and helping to drive the real sector or MSMEs evenly in remote villages throughout Indonesia," the minister remarked.
Legi Market is planned to accommodate around 2,480 merchants, including the market's earlier traders.
The renovation of Legi Market began on February 5, 2020, with a budget of Rp133.6 billion, and was conducted by contractor PT Adhi Persada Gedung, construction management consultant PT Rancang Persada, and planning consultant CV Profil Emas Konsultan. Currently, the revitalization of Legi Market has been completed and is ready to be handed over to the East Java provincial government.
The work to renovate Pariaman Market in West Sumatra began in December 2019 by PT Wijaya Karya Bangunan Gedung, with a budget of Rp89.74 billion.
Revitalization of this traditional market was conducted by the Ministry of PUPR, through the Directorate General of Human Settlements, as a follow-up to Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 43 of 2019 on Development, Rehabilitation, or Renovation of Traditional Markets, Higher Education Infrastructure, Islamic Religious Colleges, and Primary and Secondary Education Buildings.
This revitalization was conducted to support economic recovery of the community and to offer safe, comfortable, clean, orderly, and more aesthetic as well as appealing public markets.
