Semarang, C Java (ANTARA) - Seven flights to and from Jenderal Ahmad Yani International Airport in Semarang, Central Java were delayed on Saturday as flood submerged its runway.

"Until now, seven flights were delayed and one flight was redirected to Surabaya, namely Garuda Indonesia flight GA 232 serving Jakarta-Semarang route," Stakeholder Relation Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I Jenderal Ahmad Yani Airport Heri Trisno Wibowo said when contacted by phone here on Saturday.

The seven delayed flights are Batik Air ID 6362 serving Jakarta-Semarang, route Batik Air ID 6350 Jakarta-Semarang, Nam Air IN 195 Pangkalan Bun-Semarang, Wings Air IW 1806 Semarang-Pangkalan Bun, Garuda Indonesia GA 235 Semarang-Jakarta, Batik Air ID 7369 Semarang-Jakarta, and Nam Air IN 196 Semarang-Pangkalan Bun.

Wibowo said, the airport would be closed until the weather got better.

The airport operator has pumped the water out of the runway.

"Checking and cleaning of the flight area and the terminal area are still ongoing," he said.

Jenderal Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang was closed as flood has submerged its runway after torrential rain since Friday (Feb 5).

The authority has operated 54 water pumps to pump theater out of the runway.
