The hot cloud was detected flowing to the east and south of Mount Sinabung.Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - Mount Sinabung in Karo district, North Sumatra province, erupted again on Tuesday, with hot clouds and lava spreading as far as two kilometers away.
"The hot cloud was detected flowing to the east and south of Mount Sinabung," head of the Mount Sinabung Observation Post, Armen Putra, stated here on Tuesday.
The 2,460-meter-high volcano shot a column of white clouds up to 200 meters into the sky. The hot clouds were recorded to have an amplitude of 120 mm, while the earthquake's duration was 270 seconds.
"The weather was sunny and cloudy, with weak to moderate winds blowing in the southeasterly and southerly direction, while the temperature was recorded at 19-26 degrees Celsius," Putra informed.
The emergency status of Mount Sinabung has been declared as Level III (alert).
Putra urged residents and farmers to steer clear from conducting activities in villages that have been relocated and at locations within a three-km radius from the mountain’s peak, a five-km radius for the south-east sector, and a four-km radius for the east-north sector.
Mt Sinabung eruptions claimed two lives in 2010 and 15 lives in 2015.
The last known eruption, prior to recent times, occurred in the year 1600. (INE)
