Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vendors at 115 markets in the areas of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) will receive vaccine shots, according to Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

"We will gradually penetrate all markets in Greater Jakarta. We will conduct it in stages at 115 markets in Jabodetabek," Sadikin noted in his statement at the Tanah Abang Market, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday.

The minister affirmed that the mass vaccination conducted at the Tanah Abang wholesale market will serve as a role model for other markets across Indonesia to organize vaccinations for vendors at public markets.

The ministry has outlined four models to implement the COVID-19 vaccination mechanism to facilitate and expedite the vaccination program, according to Sadikin.

The first approach involves people visiting health facilities for their vaccinations.

Under the second model, a team from the Ministry of Health will come directly to offices or places where people work to vaccinate by applying the pick-up method.

For the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and Police (Polri), in particular, the ministry will deliver vaccines directly since the two institutions have the human resources to vaccinate their members.

The third model entails the health ministry’s team visiting crowded centers to administer COVID-19 vaccinations to the public.

The fourth model involves preparing specific places used as mass vaccination centers for the public.

"We adjust the four injection models based on the types of work," the minister remarked.

The second phase of the vaccination program for people working in the public sector and the elderly commenced today, marked by injections for the market vendors.

A total of 9,700 vendors were registered to be vaccinated on Wednesday.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), accompanied by Minister Sadikin and Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, bore witness to the vaccination conducted for Tanah Abang Market's vendors on Wednesday morning. (INE)
