Considering the negative impacts of alcoholic beverages, the United Development Party (PPP) has, since the earlier period, proposed an immediate passing of the alcoholic prohibition billJakarta (ANTARA) - A senior parliament member pressed for the House of Representatives to pass the alcohol prohibition bill in the wake of the grave threats posed by liquor on Indonesians, especially members of the young generation.
The negative impacts of alcoholic beverages again came to light in an incident wherein three people were fatally shot at RM Cafe in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Thursday, Deputy Head of the House Legislation Body Achmad Baidowi stated here on Friday.
"Considering the negative impacts of alcoholic beverages, the United Development Party (PPP) has, since the earlier period, proposed an immediate passing of the alcoholic prohibition bill," Baidowi remarked.
Prior to the Cengkareng shooting incident, Indonesia also drew attention over the death of a Japanese citizen due to liquor, he pointed out.
Owing to the detrimental impacts of alcoholic beverages, this senior PPP politician urged the Indonesian government to welcome only those investing in industries that are not harmful to Indonesia and its people.
"We need to consider other investments that can exclude the legalization of alcoholic beverages in them," he noted while clarifying that the PPP is not an anti-investment.
In its place, Indonesia absolutely supports the flow of direct investment that are favorable to it, according to Baidowi.
"We also recognize the existence of local wisdom in several regions that call for the use of alcoholic drinks. However, it should be regulated in the law that legalizes the use of alcoholic drinks for medical, customary, and ritual purposes," he explained.
In connection with the Cengkareng shooting case, National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo has instructed the dismissal of Chief Brigadier CS without honors after he shot dead three people, including an army personnel, at RM Cafe on Thursday.
As disclosed in a telegram that General Prabowo issued following the fatal shooting, Chief Brigadier CS, a member of the Kalideres police precinct in West Jakarta, must also be brought to court.
Issuance of the Telegram No.ST/396/II/HUK.7.1./2021, dated February 25, 2021, is aimed at preventing a similar incident from recurring in future, National Police spokesperson Insp. Gen. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono stated.

Listyo Sigit Prabowo, was also aimed at nurturing the strong relations between the police and Indonesian Defence Forces (TNI).
