Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has encouraged the Partnership for Green Growth and Global Goals (P4G) 2030 Initiative to take extraordinary steps to achieve sustainable development.

"The P4G 2030 Initiative cannot be realized through business as usual. We must achieve it in extraordinary ways. Partnership among stakeholders is the key to ensuring that the economy, production, and consumption are realized in a sustainable way," the president remarked in the YouTube Channel of the Presidential Secretariat.

The president made the remarks in his address to the Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals (P4G) 2030 Summit held virtually in South Korea on Sunday.

The threat of climate change and COVID-19 pandemic has been an eye-opener for all countries of their obligation to become more serious about pursuing sustainable, inclusive, and resilient development, he stated.

For its part, the P4G 2030 Initiative cannot be realized through business as usual but through extraordinary ways, he pointed out.

The head of state drew attention to the importance of fundamental steps to ensure the attainment of green development in global order.

Firstly, enabling the environment to drive synergy between investment and job creation through green development.

"Indonesia has applied low carbon development planning, which is an integral part of the medium-term national development plan. Indonesia has also launched the Job Creation Law as a manifestation of its commitment to ensuring that economic and social progress will not harm the environment," he pointed out.

Secondly, driving innovations to mobilize supporting resources for the implementation of green development, the president noted.

Jokowi remarked that the availability of funding support and technological transfer is the key to the success of green development to neutralize carbon. Hence, Indonesia is open to investment and technological transfer.

Thirdly, each country is obligated to bolstering concrete cooperation that can be soon be implemented in an effective and sustainable manner.

The president noted that protectionism, under the pretext of environmental issues, must be avoided. The pro-environment parameter must be clear and be implemented honestly and transparently.

"Cooperation and joint efforts to settle common problems are fundamental requirements for the success of the green economy, particularly when the world is in the phase of recovery from the pandemic. I stress that Indonesia remains highly committed to working closely with the rest of the world to create a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient life," he remarked.
