During the demographic bonus window, the role of workers will increasingly become strong and significant for economic growth.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has trained its sights on building herd immunity in the first quarter of 2022 along with mammoth efforts to handle the COVID-19 pandemic and implement mass vaccination, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati stated.

"The efforts to handle the pandemic and implement mass vaccination is expected to control the rise in the COVID-19 caseload, so that herd immunity can be achieved in the first quarter of 2022," the minister noted at a plenary meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Monday.

Achieving herd immunity in the first quarter of 2022 will usher in recovery in social and economic activities in order to return to pre-pandemic levels, she remarked.

Hence, the government will continue to ensure optimal handling of the pandemic and effective implementation of nationwide vaccination for swifter economic recovery, Indrawati stated.

In line with the social and economic recovery efforts, the minister highlighted that the government will take various steps to conduct structural reforms.

Indrawati stressed that structural reforms were an indispensable requirement to ensure that the national economic potentials were being utilized optimally to expedite post-pandemic economic growth.

Structural reforms encompass implementing the job creation law, including its derivative rules; developing basic and digital infrastructures; and improving the mastery of technology, the minister explained.

The others comprised increasing production efficiency and honing the workers' skills that will boost production capacity and enhance economic performance.

Indrawati expressed belief that the reform policy will be able to boost investment, improve business climate, and create quality or decent jobs.

"During the demographic bonus window, the role of workers will increasingly become strong and significant for economic growth," she asserted.

Structural reform must be successful in maintaining the investors' confidence in Indonesia, so that economic development, which has more value, will become a priority, the minister stated.
