Jakarta (ANTARA) - The construction project of the Rokan Block oil pipeline in Riau, run by PT Pertamina Gas, has reached 71.33-percent completion.

PT Pertamina Gas, the subsidiary of state-run energy company PT Pertamina, reaffirmed its pledge to finalize the oil pipeline construction in a timely manner, its Communication Manager, Elok Riani Ariza, stated.

"As of June, the construction work had reached 71.33-percent completion," Ariza noted in a statement here on Monday.

Ariza emphasized that safety had become the chief concern of the company in the project amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

It has run the project for 2.1 million safe working hours since its first welding on September 10, 2020, until June 25, 2021, she noted.

The 367-kilometer oil pipeline will pass through five districts and cities, 14 sub-districts, and 38 villages.

"We are upbeat about this project having a positive impact on the development in Riau and contributing to the improvement of human resource capacity through the transfer of knowledge, especially in regions traversed by the pipe," she noted.

Pertamina Gas claimed that 70 percent of the 2,404 workers in the project were local workforce.

The Rokan Block oil pipeline will be able to distribute 200-265 thousand barrels of oil per day, and the project is due to be completed in early 2022.

The project is one of the country's major projects to support energy resilience as well as the national economic growth. Related news: PGN commences 367-km crude oil pipeline construction in Rokan Block
