Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is keen that the daily COVID-19 vaccination rate will increase to five million doses in August 2021, Health Minister Budi Gunawan Sadikin stated.

"The president is optimistic that the daily vaccination target of one million doses would be achieved in July 2021 and two million doses and, if necessary, five million doses in August 2021," Sadikin noted during an online press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The minister is upbeat about achieving the target of administering one million COVID-19 doses per day in July 2021 since the government has received an additional 31 million doses.

The country is expected to receive another 45 million doses of the vaccine in August 2021, so that the daily vaccination rate could be increased further, he remarked.

"It can reach two million doses per day," he stated.
