Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) launched 300 thousand packages of medicines and vitamins for people that contracted COVID-19 and had to conduct self-isolation.

"Starting today, the government will immediately distribute free vitamin and medicine packages for self-isolating (people infected with COVID-19) in risky areas," Jokowi stated at the Merdeka Palace here on Thursday.

President Jokowi conveyed this at the "Launch of Free Isoman (Self-Isolation) Medicine Packages for the People".

Attendees at the event comprised Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto and State-owned Enterprises (SOE) Minister Erick Thohir.

"In the current stage, 300 thousand packages will be distributed for those conducting self-isolation in Java and Bali and thereafter be followed by another 300 thousand packages for those outside Java," he revealed.

The government has provided three types of drug packages for self-isolating COVID-19 sufferers for seven days.

"This package contains vitamins for residents with positive PCR (polymerase chain reaction) results but asymptomatic (OTG). This is package 1," the president stated while showing the box containing the drugs and vitamins.

Package 2 contains vitamins and medicines for residents with positive PCR results and experiencing fever and loss of smell.

"For this package, consultations and doctor's prescriptions are required, especially by doctors from puskesmas (community health centers)," he noted.

The package 3 contains vitamins and medicines for residents with positive PCR and complaints of fever and dry cough. The package also requires consultation and a doctor's prescription.

Jokowi reiterated that implementing the emergency Community Activity Restriction (PPKM) policy was necessary to stem the rate of spread of COVID-19.

"The government continues to work hard to ease the burden on the affected people. Hence, the government is providing assistance starting today in the form of basic food assistance through the PKH (Family of Hope Program) and cash social assistance as well as vitamin and medicine packages," he revealed.

Based on data from the COVID-19 Task Force, as of July 14, 2021, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia had reached 2,670,046, with the addition of 54,517 cases in the last 24 hours, which is the highest daily COVID-19 case record in Indonesia since March 2020.

The country also recorded 443,473 active cases on Wednesday.

The number of recoveries increased by 20,123, bringing the tally to 2,157,363 people.
