"We hope, on August 17, Jakarta’s residents would give a present for Indonesia's Independence Day celebrations by reaching 100-percent vaccination rate in Jakarta," Jakarta Metro Jaya Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Yusri Yunus noted in a written statement here on Friday.
The Jakarta Metro Jaya Police targets to administer the first vaccine dose to as many as 8,395,427 Jakarta residents by August 17, 2021. To achieve this target, the Jakarta Metro Jaya Police has launched the Merdeka Vaccination program, Yunus remarked.
The spokesperson noted that part of the implementation of the programs entails establishing vaccination booths at every community unit in the Jadetabek area to make it easier for people to receive the COVID-19 vaccine

Moreover, Yunus informed that regardless of their domicile, only an identity card was required in order to register for vaccination at the Merdeka Vaccination outlets.
In ensuring the success of the program, Yunus noted that various elements of society, such as students, doctors, nurses, and volunteers, were also involved.
Moreover, Yunus affirmed that his side had collaborated with several business owners to raise the public's interest in partaking in vaccination through various ways, including providing free online motorcycle taxi vouchers for use by residents heading the Merdeka Vaccination booths.
The Merdeka Vaccination Program is one of the Jakarta Regional Leadership Coordination Forum’s (Forkopimda’s) strategies to expedite vaccination to achieve 100-percent herd immunity in the capital city.
The vaccination program, launched by Chief of National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, is taking place on August 1-17, 2021, to usher in the 76th Anniversary of Indonesia's independence.
