Jakarta has begun administering the third (booster) shots of vaccines to medical workers. We have set a target of administering the third vaccine dose to all medical workers at the end of this month.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan is aiming to provide COVID-19 booster shots to all healthcare workers in the capital by the end of August 2021.

At least 124 thousand healthcare workers in Jakarta will soon receive the third or booster jabs, the governor said while reviewing the administration of Moderna vaccine jabs to medical workers at Tarakan Regional Hospital in Central Jakarta on Friday.

"Jakarta has begun administering the third (booster) shots of vaccines to medical workers. We have set a target of administering the third vaccine dose to all medical workers at the end of this month," he said.

The healthcare workers will be given the Moderna vaccine as the third shot, Baswedan informed. They earlier received the Sinovac vaccine for their first and second shot, he said.

The city administration began administering the booster doses to medical workers on July 20, 2021. So far, 80 medical workers have been administered the Moderna vaccine, the governor said.

The medical workers will get their third jab in rotation on account of adverse events following immunization (AEFI), including fever, he said.

Medical workers who have been administered the Moderna vaccine are being asked to rest for one to two days, he added.

The governor expressed the hope that the third vaccine jab will protect medical workers as they perform their duties at hospitals and other health facilities.
