Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is striving to prevent worsening of conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic through measures comprising accelerating vaccinations, especially in areas that are the hubs of economic activity, with high citizen mobility.

Spokesperson for COVID-19 Vaccination at the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, stated in Jakarta on Monday that accelerating the implementation of vaccinations was one of the three key pillars of the COVID-19 response being implemented by the government.

"The government is increasing the number of daily vaccinations to reach 1,250,000 injections in August in seven agglomeration areas and preparing 1,230,000 vaccine injections outside the Java-Bali agglomeration areas," she confirmed.

Tarmizi confirmed that the government had prepared 258 million COVID-19 vaccine doses for inoculation for the August-December 2021 period.

In addition to expediting the implementation of vaccinations, Tarmizi spoke of the government intensifying the campaign for the implementation of the 3M health protocols of wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining distance, considered to be the second main pillar in handling the COVID-19 pandemic.

"As a precautionary measures against dire conditions due to the new variant of COVID-19, the government has urged the public to stay disciplined in following health protocols, as it is the most effective means of prevention against new variants and the addition of new variants," she emphasized.

According to the spokesperson, the third main strategy in tackling COVID-19 encompassed massive inspection, tracking and handling of cases.

Tarmizi remarked that the government was targeting to conduct 579 thousand checks per day to detect the spread of COVID-19 and trace at least 10 close contacts in every case of disease transmission.

The spokesperson noted that the government was also making efforts to ensure the availability of treatment rooms and quarantine facilities as well as medicines and medical devices for handling COVID-19 patients.

Tarmizi noted that the government had prepared centralized isolation facilities, with a total of 49 thousand patient beds, in Java and Bali.

"This is supported by personnel and the provision of various facilities for treating COVID-19 patients, such as doctors, nurses, medicines, oxygen, and other patient requirements," she stated.
