To celebrate our Independence Day virtually is the best choice at this point in time. We have created a platform called Indonesia Digital House (Rumah Digital Indonesia) to celebrate our Independence Day
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate has appealed to the public to hold virtual celebrations to mark Indonesia's Independence Day falling on August 17.

"To celebrate our Independence Day virtually is the best choice at this point in time. We have created a platform called Indonesia Digital House (Rumah Digital Indonesia) to celebrate our Independence Day," Plate stated during a virtual meeting on Tuesday.

The minister later noted that the public can express their joy, become involved in community activities, and participate in the classic Independence Day race virtually through the Rumah Digital Indonesia platform.

Rumah Digital Indonesia is a program, coordinated by the Presidential Special Staff Putri Tanjung, to digitally celebrate the 76th Independence Day.

The site is accessible from August 1 to August 31 through rumahdigitalindonesia.id.

The minister highlighted that the main theme for Indonesia's Independence Day this year was "Indonesia Tangguh, Indonesia Tumbuh," translating to the country’s resilience and that Indonesia will grow.

Plate stated that his administration supports this year's Independence Day celebrations being held virtually on account of the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in various regions.

"The virtual celebrations have become a new model for celebrating Indonesia's independence, which is more focused on the digital space. The use of information technology demonstrates Indonesia's adaptability and agility," Plate emphasized.

Rumah Digital Indonesia provides spaces that can be visited virtually, including those for digital literacy for the public to gain an understanding of digital skills and ethics in the digital space, digital culture, and digital security.

In addition, a space called Ruang Pasar Lokal is available for micro, small, and medium enterprises, or MSMEs, to sell their products online.

This platform is also expected to help the community and MSMEs transition to the digital world and not just for the purpose of celebrating Indonesia's Independence Day.

Although this year's Independence Day celebrations are virtually centralized, the government will continue to hold the Proclamation Commemoration Ceremony and Flag Hoisting Ceremony, albeit on a limited scale and in adherence to strict health protocols.
