Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Transportation Ministry's Greater Jakarta Transportation Agency (BPTJ) is working with the National Police Force to host a mass vaccination event at Jatijajar Type A Terminal in Depok, West Java, on Wednesday.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi directly supervised the 'Merdeka Vaccine Booth,' which offered services to the residents of Depok and surrounding areas, targeting 1,000 people over the age of 18.

"President Joko Widodo has instructed ministries and institutions to take part in vaccination campaigns. Thank God the Transportation Ministry carried out this vaccination program, in collaboration with the National Defense Force, the National Police Force and regional authorities. In total, we have inoculated 200,000 people," Sumadi said.

Sumadi stressed the number of vaccinated people in Jakarta's satellite cities has increased, and while 80 per cent of Jakarta’s residents are vaccinated, this figure is only 27 percent in Depok.

"Every week, we conduct vaccinations in transportation centers and transportation schools. Thank you, Depok’s City Mayor, because 27 percent of the public participated in the vaccination. Thank you as well to the National Police Force, who has worked with us in hosting vaccinations in transportation centers," he added.

He also expects more people to take part in the vaccination program, so herd immunity against COVID-19 can be reached sooner, which will drive the economy and ensure the return to normalcy.

Depok City Mayor Idris Abdul Somad lauded the vaccination program, stressing the necessity of everyone's cooperation in driving up the vaccination rate, which will lead to the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As well as vaccinations, the Transportation Ministry and its stakeholders are donated food packages (sembako) and local fruits to healthcare workers, people affected by the pandemic, and drivers of motor taxis and public transportation vehicles.

Budi Setiyadi, General Director of Land Transportation, Polana B. Pramesti, Head of the Jabodetabek Transportation Management Agency, Depok City Mayor K.H Muh. Idris Abdul Somad, Police Brigadier General Yusuf, and Munadi Herlambang, PT Jasa Raharja's Institutional Director, also attended the event.
