Labuan Bajo (ANTARA) - The Labuan Bajo Multipurpose Port in West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has served loading and unloading of 2,020 twenty-food equivalent (TEU) containers.

"Based on data as of August 12, the containers at the Multipurpose Port are 2,020 TEUs, with a total of 34 ships," General Manager of Pelindo III Labuan Bajo Multipurpose Port Akhmad Syahrudin noted on Saturday.

Syahrudin explained that loading and unloading activities were able to run smoothing owing to the tools owned by PT Pelindo III, including a 45-ton capacity reach stacker, seven-ton capacity forklift, and two head trucks and 20" chassis.

The Labuan Bajo Multipurpose Port spans an area of 82,920 square meters. The total area includes the dock, trestle causeway, seaside container yard (CY), landside CY, warehouse, yard, offices, and gates.

The port will be used for handling logistics traffic and loading and unloading of containers, cargo, and liquid bulk.

This port is supported by a pier that is 120 meters long and 20 meters wide. The available facilities are a causeway, trestle, container yard, warehouse, gate, landside loading and unloading area, supply of clean water to ships, and other supporting facilities.

"The capacity of the Container Yard is 484 TEUs. Meanwhile, the work is still ongoing for the seaside CY," Syahrudin stated.

Currently, three shipping container companies -- PT Mentarimas Multi Moda, PT Meratus Line, and PT Tanto Intim Line -- have conducted loading and unloading activities at the port.

Syahrudin emphasized that state-owned port authority Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) III is striving to make the loading and unloading process at the Multipurpose Port less time-consuming, akin to that at the previous port: the Labuan Bajo Port.

He ensured that loading and unloading activities would be completed in 24 hours at the most, so that they could expedite the delivery of containers to proffer more benefits to customers and the company.
