Baturaja (ANTARA) - The Ogan Komering Ulu Health Office in South Sumatra Province has obtained 1,030 additional vials of COVID-19 vaccines in the midst of its endeavors to increase the number of residents to get vaccinated.

"Thank God, the additional vaccine vials arrived in OKU District on Friday (Aug 13) at around 7:40 p.m. local time," Andi Prapto from the Disease Prevention and Control of Ogan Komering Ulu Health Office stated in Baturaja on Saturday.

Prapto remarked that the additional vaccines were stored in the OKU Health Office Pharmacy Storage in Tanjung Agung Village, West Baturaja Sub-district, for distribution to all public health facilities and COVID-19 vaccination programs' managers.

Out of the 1,030 vials, 100 were for the Health Office, 100 for the OKU police force, 350 for the District Military Command 0403, and 60 for vaccination centers, according to Prapto.

He confirmed that 420 Moderna COVID-19 vaccines will be allocated as the third vaccine dose for healthcare workers.

Some 27 percent of OKU District's residents had been inoculated, he remarked.

Residents that had already received their two doses of vaccine comprised 5,314 healthcare workers, 45,434 public servants, 14,376 general public, 6,814 elderly people, and 1,087 teenagers.

"Vaccine distribution in future is expected to go smoothly, so 277 thousand of OKU residents can be vaccinated by the end of 2021 in line with the plan," he remarked.

Vaccine distribution in OKU is part of the efforts to achieve national herd immunity. President Jokowi affirmed that his side was pushing to vaccinate 70 percent of Indonesian citizens by December 2021 to achieve the target.

The central government had announced extension of the community activities restriction once again, from August 12 to August 16 on account of the high death tally and the rampant spread of the virus.
