This collaboration will provide opportunities for both companies, including joint operations as well as for hardware and software technology, training center, and market development
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), a subsidiary of state-run oil firm PT Pertamina, is collaborating with PT Pelita Air Service to develop unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or drones, for their upstream oil and gas mining operations.

Pertamina Upstream Innovation Vice President Alpius Dwi Guntara elaborated that the collaboration was a form of synergy to bolster competence and share knowledge pertaining to drones that the company was engaged in earlier.

"This collaboration will provide opportunities for both companies, including joint operations as well as for hardware and software technology, training center, and market development," Guntara noted in a statement on Friday.

Currently, the upstream sub-holding has implemented 26 projects spread across three upstream subsidiaries -- PT Pertamina EP Cepu, PT Pertamina EP, and PT Pertamina Hulu Energi -- with a total mapping area of 29,683 hectares.

Guntara expounded that the forms of collaboration in developing drones, start from sharing knowledge on unmanned aerial system (UAS) technology, technical assistance, and resource utilization for photogrammetric mapping, inspection, and aerial surveillance activities.

Moreover, joint studies related to the development of UAS, sensors, and new methods in the use of these technologies will be conducted under the collaboration.

PHE is conducting the development of drones for implementing a post-restructuring regional strategy to expedite knowledge transfer and utilizing photogrammetric mapping activities in all upstream sub-holding work areas.

The program aims to support excellence in operations that also supports the national oil production target of one million barrels per day and gas production target of 12 billion standard cubic feet per day by 2030.

PHE and Pelita Air Service will synergize efforts for a two-year period to support technological updates and research related to hyperspectral sensors.

“PHE is one of Pertamina's subsidiaries that has implemented UAV technology. This cooperation is important for the two companies, so they can contribute to mapping Pertamina's assets," Acting Managing Director of Pelita Air Service Affan Hidayat remarked.
