Hence, before implementing e-voting, the law and regulation must be clear firstSemarang (ANTARA) - Indonesian Cyber Research of Communication and Information System Security Research Center (CISSReC) Chairman Pratama Persadha suggested the government to issue regulations on voters' data safety for the e-voting system during the 2024 election.
"This e-Voting provision needs to be regulated through law, so that it does not become a loophole in future that will lead to the cancellation of the electronic voting results," Persadha stated in connection with the discourse on the use of the e-voting system in the 2024 General Election.
On the other hand, Persadha addressed the importance of the Law on Personal Data Protection (UU PDP) in order to compel the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU) to implement security in the systems and public data that they manage.
The CISSReC chairman is upbeat about the e-voting system being implemented during the 2024 Election.

Technically, the technology does not take much time. However, it is likely that the law governing e-Voting will take a relatively long time in the Indonesian House of Representatives, according to Persadha.
"Hence, before implementing e-voting, the law and regulation must be clear first," Persadha noted.
Speaking in connection with infrastructure, Persadha comprehends the importance of building a voting place (TPS) for e-voting. The system must be readied, including its security, to prevent easily falling victim to hacking, he emphasized.
In addition, it is related to the readiness of the national data center. Persadha believes that the absence of a national data center will make it difficult to hold e-voting in the country.
"Indonesia needs a national data center that is safe and thoroughly tested, so that later, it will not be slow due to high traffic and other technical reasons related to the network and data center," he expounded.

The readiness of human resources on the field is also one of the key aspects to conduct e-Voting. It is a tough task for the KPU to educate its officers on the field in terms of regulation, technicality, and security of the system.
Persadha called on the government to ensure and minimize the possibility of system disturbances from within and outside the country, especially voting via the internet.
Security must also be a top priority. In various cases of e-voting in South America, several incidents of hacking surfaced and disrupted the election result, he pointed out.
"There is a need for a strong encryption process with encryption algorithms created in the country. The KPU can cooperate with Indonesia's Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN)," Persadha noted.
