Let's prioritize the safety of our nation, and avoid sectarian politics that hinders the unity and integrity of the nation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has appealed to the public to avoid sectarian politics, saying it could hinder the unity and integrity of the nation.

He made the appeal at the online commemoration of the 23rd anniversary of the National Mandate Party (PAN), which was streamed on PAN TV's Youtube channel and accessed from here on Monday.

The President said that Indonesia is currently facing challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the midst of the challenges and their impact, everyone must work together and help each other based on civilized moral values and set a good example by prioritizing national and humanitarian political agendas.

"Let's prioritize the safety of our nation, and avoid sectarian politics that hinders the unity and integrity of the nation," Jokowi remarked.

He said he believed that PAN has always been consistent in defending the values of reform and the moral values of the nation.

"(The party) consistently carries out good politics and is firm in fighting for political moderation and inclusivism," he said.

The head of state wished PAN on its 23rd anniversary and said he hoped it would continue to grow, develop, and consistently unite the nation and voice progress.

"May God facilitate every effort to achieve advanced Indonesia, as we aspire to," Jokowi said.
