The beginning of the digital era in Industrial Revolution 4.0 and the presence of the pandemic have compelled us to enter the digital spaceJakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Informatics is striving to boost gender inclusivity in the information and communication technology sector so that women can become a part of digital transformation, an official has said.
"Because there is a requirement in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), where 30 percent of the whole sector must be represented by women," head of the Ministry's Human Resources Research and Development Agency, Hary Budiarto, said in a press statement issued here on Friday.
To bring about greater involvement of women in digital transformation, the ministry has launched an Indonesian Women in Tech 'Programming with Python' training within the 2021 Digital Talent Scholarship Program, he informed.
"For the IT sector, this training will encourage women to become programmers and create applications," he explained.

According to the World Bank report, Indonesia requires nine million skilled and semi-skilled digital talents by 2030. To achieve that goal, Indonesia needs to churn out 600 thousand digital talents each year, Budiarto pointed out.
The nine-million target, which includes women, is in accordance with President Joko Widodo's directive to conduct digital transformation in all sectors, he said.
"The beginning of the digital era in Industrial Revolution 4.0 and the presence of the pandemic have compelled us to enter the digital space," he noted.
To prepare digital talents, the ministry is collaborating with several ministries, such as the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology; Ministry of Manpower; and Ministry of Industry, he informed.

Meanwhile, deputy of politics, law, defense and security at the National Planning and Development Agency, Slamet Soedarsono, said that developing human resources, especially women, is vital for supporting digital transformation in Indonesia.
The Women in Tech training, which is part of the Thematic Academy (TA) of the 2021 Digital Talent Scholarship Program, currently has 500 participants.
By the end of the training, the participants will create a simple game project using the Python programming language.
