The epicenter of the quake, which struck at 7.27 p.m. (West Indonesia Time), was located around 52 kilometers southwest of Keenom at a depth of 10 kilometers, the agency said.
The earthquake was felt at II-III Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) in Jayapura, Keerom, and Wamena
According to the BMKG, an earthquake of MMI II can be felt by some people and causes hanging light articles to shake, while an earthquake of MMI III can be felt indoors and feels similar to the movement of a truck.
No immediate reports were received of any material damage, injuries, or fatalities in Saturday's earthquake, officials said.
Indonesia sits on the Pacific "ring of fire", a volcanologically active terrestrial chain, where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions can happen any time.
