Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned Enterprises (SOE) Minister Erick Thohir has targeted to administer six million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine at vaccination centers throughout the country.

"The SOE minister has targeted to deliver at least six million doses of the vaccine through our vaccination centers, including at Islamic boarding schools," Thohir stated as quoted on his Instagram account, Monday.

He later explained that Islamic boarding schools were a priority for the COVID-19 vaccination to ensure that learning activities run smoothly and also to ensure the well-being of students and teachers.

"I want all kiai, ustadz, teachers, and students to be protected and their learning activities at the respective Islamic boarding schools to run smoothly and safely," Thohir remarked.

The minister also expressed optimism that Indonesians would get through this COVID-19 pandemic together.

"Be patient, be faithful, and keep praying. By God's will, we can get through this pandemic together," the minister stated.

Minister Thohir had earlier lauded the efforts made by Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) to expedite the realization of herd immunity through a vaccination program for three thousand students at the Kyai Haji Aqiel Siroj Islamic Boarding School in Kempek, Cirebon, West Java.

Thohir stated that vaccination for students and teachers of Islamic boarding schools was an effort to establish herd immunity in the field of education that will be gradually started to conduct limited face-to-face learning. He emphasized that the government always strives to implement and intensify vaccinations nationally.

On the same occasion, BRI President Director Sunarso highlighted BRI’s commitment to continuing to play a role in supporting the government by helping to accelerate vaccination programs in various regions in Indonesia. This aims to achieve herd immunity targets and to enable people to return to normal activities.
