Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has said he hopes the level of public activity restrictions (PPKM) would soon be lowered in all regions, just like in Jakarta, thereby allowing the public to carry out activities more freely.

“Hence, akin to what happened in Jakarta, I also hope other regions would experience the decreasing level from four to three. Therefore, such conditions will lead to less strict conditions that the government will adjust by decreasing the level," Amin said.

He was accompanied by Religious Affairs Vice Minister Zainut Tauhi Sa’adi and Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan during his visit to Darunnajah Islamic Boarding School in Pesanggrahan District, Jakarta, on Thursday,to see the face-to-face learning at the school.

During his visit, Amin also appealed to all governors and provincial administrations to prioritize upstream handling in controlling COVID-19 in each region.

“The most critical thing is the upstream handling, the implementation of health protocols, then its sufficient tracing, akin to what Jakarta had done, including vaccinations. If those three are strictly undertaken, I am sure the situation can be controlled,” he expounded.

“Today, I witnessed the resuming of face-to-face learning in Jakarta since the capital is deemed to have met the requirements of stepping down into level three (PPKM) and its transmission rate is also low,” he said.

The positivity rate in Jakarta has also dropped below the five-percent limit set by the World Health Organization (WHO), so direct learning can be reinstated by following stringent health protocols, he added.

As of August 30, 2021, Jakarta’s positivity rate was recorded at 4.8 percent, with 341 positive cases detected in 7,657 PCR tests.

Meanwhile, the government has extended PPKM enforcement in Java and Bali Islands from August 31 to September 6, 2021, with the PPKM level downgraded from four to three in 26 districts and towns.
