"Production will certainly increase and we hope that the welfare of farmers will also increase," President Widodo said while inaugurating the dam on Thursday.
The inauguration was broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's Youtube video on Thursday.
With upstream-downstream linkages through the use of a cascade system for water management, it is hoped that the crop planting intensity in Pringsewu and its surroundings will increase from twice a year to three times a year, the President said.
However, the head of the state reiterated that the dam would function optimally if it is connected to a well-organized irrigation system.
The President asked the Governor of Lampung, the district head of Pringsewu and other district heads to pay attention to the matter.
"We hope that this dam will provide maximum benefits in order to support farmer productivity, help people who have difficulty with (finding) clean water, and reduce community losses due to flooding," he said.
