Jakarta (ANTARA) - Childfree, a topic widely discussed on social media, can highlight the importance of awareness on reproductive health education, National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) Head Hasto Wardoyo stated.

Being childfree is a voluntary choice made by married couples wherein they decide to not have children.

"BKKBN has a Reproduction Health Directorate, with an Infertility sub-division, whose goal in BKKBN is to help those, who are infertile or cannot have children or cannot become pregnant," Wardoyo told ANTARA, as noted in a written statement on Monday.

BKKBN reaches out and provides counseling to those unable to become pregnant and those looking to have children but experiencing difficulties in doing so, he added.

According to the BKKBN, the topic of childfree has become viral on social media as something that could encourage the public to gain greater knowledge about reproductive rights, for both genders, and to know more about a couple's responsibility in a family, he affirmed.

"The word responsibility may be quite scary for most people. Which is why, every future married couple should conduct planning, so that their marriage vision and mission are similar," he remarked.

Marriage planning can be done through a pre-marriage course wherein a future couple can learn about the concept of an ideal marriage.

Ideal marriage entails the ideal age as well as financial, physical, mental, emotional, social, moral, interpersonal, life skill, and intellectual readiness.

These can be the foundation for deciding whether to have children as well as deciding whether to live as a family.

The decision to have children is the right and choice for every couple, he said.
