Indonesia ranks sixth globally, but we must remain vigilant and try our best to expedite the vaccination rateJakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto highlighted that Indonesia was currently ranked sixth in the vaccination rate list worldwide.
"Indonesia ranks sixth globally, but we must remain vigilant and try our best to expedite the vaccination rate," Hartarto stated during a press conference here on Monday.
The minister noted that as of Sunday, September 5, some 105.7 million COVID-19 vaccine doses had been administered comprising 66.78 million doses of the first vaccine and 38.22 million doses of the second vaccine.
Moreover, 713,068 doses of the third vaccine were given to healthcare workers, while 2.77 million doses of the first vaccine were administered to teenagers in the age bracket of 12 to 17 years, while 1.9 million had received their second dose.
Hartarto ensured that the government will continue to administer vaccines, including to the general public, especially to those 12 years and over, pregnant women, and elderly people.
The acceleration of vaccination is expected to push the public into doing activities as normal, thereby encouraging economic recovery.
The minister noted that vaccination was one of the government's strategies in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic that must be accompanied by increasing community discipline in conducting community activities restriction policy, including the 3M (wearing mask, washing hands, maintaining physical distance) and 3T (tracing, tracking treatment) steps.
He remarked that the positive impact of accelerating vaccination and implementing community activities restriction policy was apparent from the number of active cases that had declined as well as a decrease in the number of moderate to severe cases.
The national recovery rate was pegged at 92.8 percent, which is better than the global recovery rate of 89.4 percent.
The number of active national cases also decreased by 65.3 percent as compared to the initial level of community activities restriction policy on August 9, with the national bed occupancy rate this week also declining by 76 percent.
"Hopefully, sound cooperation from all parties would continue, so that our nation can successfully control the COVID-19 pandemic and restore the national economy," Hartarto affirmed.
