We are optimistic that if a new variant arises, we can test it, and it can be anticipated
Banjarnegara, Central Java (ANTARA) - Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo has procured genome sequencing test kits for detection and as a precautionary measure against the transmission of the new COVID-19 Mu variant or B.1.621.

"We are optimistic that if a new variant arises, we can test it, and it can be anticipated," Pranowo noted after chairing the COVID-19 Handling Evaluation Meeting at the Head of Banjarnegara District's official residence on Monday.

Pranowo additionally informed that several officers were trained to use the test kit. In addition, some samples had been taken for testing to check for the presence of the new variant.

"We are optimistic that more samples would be taken next week, so we can detect the variant early," he stated.

The governor also urged all heads of 35 districts and cities in Central Java to remain vigilant despite a continued decline in the number of COVID-19 cases in the province.

"The decline in the number of cases and bed occupancy rate (BOR), as well as improvements in the current pandemic transmission indicators should not make us complacent. We cannot be careless, so I urged everyone to be watchful," he emphasized.

The governor called for the need to continue to monitor all types gathering activities. The activities were allowed to be conducted as long as they were only for a limited number of participants in compliance with strict health protocols and held with permission.

"If the activities are conducted without permission, especially if they are reckless, disband them. You should not be hesitant about them," he affirmed.

Meanwhile, on the same occasion, Acting Secretary of Central Java Prasetyo Aribowo stated that the number of COVID-19 cases in Central Java had continued to decline, as the province had only recorded 625 additional positive cases on September 5, 2021.

"Meanwhile, the positivity rate trend also continues to decrease, from 12.88 percent in the 34th week to 9.65 percent in the 35th week. Currently, the BOR also continues to decline with the BOR in intensive care units only being 22.39 percent, while the BOR in isolation units being just 12 percent," he stated.

In addition, the isolation center at the Donohudan Hajj Dormitory, with 684 beds, is only occupied by 31 patients.
