The President gave such adequate time for them to tell their problems
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) met with 15 representatives of livestock farmers to learn about problems in the sector at the State Palace here on Wednesday.

He was accompanied by Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo and Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi at the meeting.

"We have just accompanied the President to welcome 15 people from the association of egg and poultry farmers—or chicken farmers—who are considered capable of representing all of domestic farmers. The President gave such adequate time for them to tell their problems—and even their complaints," Limpo said.

Furthermore, he informed that the representatives presented three complaints to the President relating to the cultivation of laying hens, increasing price of corn feed for laying hens, and the current low price of eggs.

After hearing their complaints, President Widodo gave three instructions to the attending ministers, he said.

The first one was to make quick attempts this week to normalize the price of corn—by using certain subsidies if necessary—in Klaten, Blitar, and Lampung, he said.

"Since the three regions are our livestock centers," Limpo explained.

Furthermore, the President ordered the two ministers to ensure stability in the price of corn, he said.

According to Limpo, Indonesian corn centers are everywhere, however the distribution of the commodity needs to be made easier for farmers.

Meanwhile, President Jokowi's third instruction was to establish a joint regulation between the two ministers to protect farmers, Limpo said.

The representatives of the livestock farmers comprised the chairman of the National Egg Farmers Association (Pinsar Petelur Nasional), Yudianto Yosgiarso; chairman of the Blitar Prosperous Poultry Farmers (PUTERA) Cooperative, Sukarman; chairman of the National People’s Breeders Association (PPRN), Rofi Yasifun; as well as Suroto, an egg farmer who was arrested by officers for posting a banner seeking help from President Widodo regarding the high price of corn during the President's official visit to Blitar, East Java.
