Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri) dispatched 100 personnel, who served as vaccinators for the COVID-19 Vaccination Regiment, in a bid to support the 20th Papua National Games (PON XX).

Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Argo Yuwono, stated that the 100 members of the National Police dispatched to Papua comprised 88 vaccinators and 12 assistants.

"They will be serving in Papua during the PON on October 2-15," Yuwono noted in a written statement received here on Saturday

He explained that the 100 members of the National Police served as additional medical personnel in the Papua PON's venues spread across four districts and cities in Papua Province: Jayapura City, Jayapura District, Mimika District, and Merauke District.

All the additional medical team personnel have already departed from the Soekarno-Hatta Airport aboard flights of several domestic airlines.

"The 100 members have departed from the Soekarno-Hatta Airport. Some have taken flights of the Garuda, Sriwijaya, and Lion Air aircraft. The coordinator for our medical team serving in Papua is Senior Commissioner Budi Heriadi," Yuwono noted.

According to Yuwono, the additional vaccinators sent to Papua are expected to help expedite the administration of the first and second doses of vaccination.

"We are optimistic that the COVID-19 Vaccinator Regiment would work with a sense of responsibility. They should maintain the honor and code of professional ethics, both as a doctor and as a member of the National Police," the former head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police remarked.

The two-star general also reminded the 100 medical personnel of the National Police, who were dispatched, to always increase their vigil against all threats. Moreover, they should synergize with the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and other agencies in these activities.

"We are optimistic that they would maintain discipline and obey orders. This means they cannot act outside of the command. I also urge them to look after and protect each other and remind one another of mutual safety," Yuwono added.
