Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Surabaya Communications and Informatics Service is currently developing an application called Pencaker to cater to job seekers in the city under the efforts to drive economic recovery amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Head of the Surabaya Communications and Informatics Service M. Fikser noted that this application is part of a collaboration with the Surabaya Manpower Service and related stakeholders.

The Pencaker application will connect job seekers with companies through a system that is prepared to help Surabaya residents get jobs in formal and informal fields.

"Essentially, the application is created to help Surabaya's residents receive more choices of job applications both in formal and informal skills," Fikser stated.

He explained that the data on these job seekers came from all Surabaya residents, who had submitted a letter or job application to the Surabaya government. In addition, it comes from the results of data surveys on the field.

"Residents whose income is below Rp7 million by one earning family member are able to be accessed by companies," he noted.

The Pencaker application prioritizes residents with income below Rp7 million in one family. Later, when companies in Surabaya need workers, they can directly access the application to find a matching employee to fulfill their needs.

"Hence, if the company needs any type of workers, they can access it from the app. The application will also display a list of job seekers and their educational background as well as the expertise of each job seeker," he remarked.

Fikser believes that the Surabaya Manpower Service also plays an important role in honing the skills of job seekers.

"If a company requires an employee with a certain skill, it will be the Manpower Service's responsibility to improve the employee's skills," Fikser remarked.

However, Fikser ensured that this application was not only aimed at connecting job seekers to companies that require special skills but also displayed other jobs that did not require special skills.

"For instance, there will be a job vacancy in cleaning service or for an office boy with no special skills needed. However, there are also vacancies for people with special skills," Fikser explained.

The former head of Public Relations of the Surabaya Government is optimistic that all stakeholders and companies in Surabaya would provide quotas for job seekers from the city. Hence, the Surabaya Manpower Office also continues to be proactive in encouraging companies.

The Pencaker application will be launched soon after completion. He targets this application to be completed within the next week.

"We are working on it. It will be completed in about a week. Once it is ready, we will also give the application an official name," he added.
