Jakarta (ANTARA) - Social Minister Tri Rismaharini visited the heir of the family of First President of Indonesia Soekarno (Bung Karno), Guntur Soekarno Putra, to seek permission to use photos for the 2022 Rupiah banknote, in Jakarta, Friday.

Prior to visiting Soekarno's family, she visited the heiress of the family of the first Vice President of Indonesia, Mohammad Hatta or Bung Hatta, Meutia Hatta.

"I, the Finance Ministry, and Bank Indonesia, are currently appealing to the Bung Karno and Bung Hatta families to allow the government to use the photos to be used in the new banknotes," Rismaharini stated at the residence of Soekarno's heir, Putra.

Putra deemed Rismaharini's activity as being a positive step to build character and national identity.

“Very positive for character building education. Character education, national indoctrination, character building, (all of them) are done by the government," Guntur affirmed.

Rismaharini visited the residence of Sukarno's heir along with Director General of Social Empowerment Edi Suharto.

Apart from Soekarno and Mohammad Hatta, six heirs whose approval was sought for the issuance of the Rupiah banknote in 2022, comprised Raden Djuanda Kartawidjaja, Cut Meutia, Mohammad Husni Thamrin, KH Idham Chalid, Frans Kaesiepo, and GSSJ Ratulangi.

The nominal money issued is in the form of banknotes in the denominations of Rp100,000, Rp. 50,000, Rp20,000, Rp10,000, Rp5,000, Rp2,000, and Rp1,000 while maintaining the image of the National Hero on the 2016 issue year Rupiah banknotes.

Assistant Governor of Bank Indonesia Dwi Pranoto, Director of the Money Management Department of Bank Indonesia Immaduddin Sahabat, and Head of Sub-Directorate of Cash Optimization at the Directorate of State Management of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia Moch Abdul Kobir were also present during the meeting with the heir.
