Mataram, NTB (ANTARA) - The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Provincial Tourism Office will optimize the promotion of local weaving clothes during World Superbike (WSBK) and MotoGP in at the Mandalika Circuit, Central Lombok District.

"We will present our local weaving products at the two international events to promote our tourism," head of the office Yusron Hadi said here on Sunday.

He made the statement at the press conference of 2021 Lombok Sharia Festival held on October 8-10, 2021 at Lombok Epicentrum Mall, Mataram City.

Several promotion attempts had been conducted ahead of the WSBK on November 19-21, 2021 and MotoGP in March 2022, including encouraging tourism operators, especially hotels administrators, to wear uniforms made of woven fabrics or having any local weaving patterns, he continued.

In addition, various equipment used at the international motorcycle racing events – for instance the racers’ umbrellas, pit stop decorations, and spectator tribune banners -- must have any weaving features from both Lombok and Sumbawa Islands.

"If there are many people using the local weaving products, then there will be many people who love the items which are rich in various motifs representing local wisdom," Hadi remarked.

However, he has admitted that the limited production capacity of the hand-made weaving craftsmen currently becomes a challenge as it increases the weaving products made with printing techniques.

"We cannot avoid the situation. However, we are sure that if the craftsmen can increase production with sufficient raw material availability, the printing weaving will slowly disappear," he noted.

Furthermore, the office head said that the Tourism Office had been ready to continue promoting NTB tourism sector in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, comprising making the province as a national center of Muslim fashion.

"Insya Allah (if God wills), the 2022 Ramadan Fair can make NTB as main reference for Muslim fashion designers based on local weaving," he added.
