The export market should not be a field for big corporations to expand their business only, but it could also be penetrated by furniture and craft SMEs under HIMKI
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesia Furniture and Craft Industry Association (HIMKI) will help furniture and craft small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to penetrate export markets, HIMKI's presidium head, Abdul Sobur, has said.

"The export markets should not be a field for big corporations to expand their business only, but they can also be penetrated by furniture and craft SMEs under HIMKI," he noted in a statement received here on Wednesday.

According to Sobur, if the natural and human resources of the nation are maintained properly, then Indonesia could become a leader in the furniture and craft industry in ASEAN.

The furniture and craft industry is a very important industry considering that this industry could act as a strong economic cushion while the economy is facing challenges due to COVID-19, especially in workforce absorption, he opined.

This is because furniture and craft have proven to be capable of remaining productive and provide revenue to the nation while other industries are reeling from the impact of COVID-19, he explained.

"This industry is strong because it is supported by a quite large local content. Hence, this industry has still experienced growth during the COVID-19 pandemic," Sobur elaborated.

Entrepreneurs who joined HIMKI are feeling grateful because the furniture and craft industry is thriving more than most similar industries producing other secondary needs, he claimed.

According to the Business Research Company, the global furniture market is projected to grow by 18 percent from US$564.7 billion in 2020 to US$671.7 billion in 2021.

The industry is also estimated to reach US$850 billion in 2025, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6 percent.

"We remain optimistic that this industry will experience growth, become popular, and capable of penetrating the global market," Sobur said.
