Apart from providing basic food and other needs, I urged the local authority to be attentive to trauma healing for the earthquake victimsKarangasem, Bali (ANTARA) - Bali Deputy Governor Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati pressed for providing trauma healing to victims of an earthquake rattling Bali Island on Oct 16 and causing significant damage and deaths in the island's eastern part.
"Apart from providing basic food and other needs, I urged the local authority to be attentive to trauma healing for the earthquake victims," Deputy Governor Sukawati stated while distributing aid and basic needs to earthquake victims in Ban Village, Karangasem District, on Sunday (Oct 24).
The deputy governor also pushed for a comprehensive aid distribution arrangement to ensure it is received by the intended target and no expired foods are delivered.
Meanwhile, Ban Village Head I Gede Tamu Sugiantara noted that from the 16 banjars (hamlets) under the village jurisdiction, most major damages were reported on nine hilltop banjars, while minor damage was reported on six other banjars.

"Around 377 houses suffered major damage, 1,083 houses suffered minor damage, and 131 temples were damaged by the earthquake," Sugiantara stated.
The village head reported tin roofs as being urgently required by the villagers to construct makeshift dwellings, while basic foods and other requirements were being addressed.
Responding to the village head's plea, Sukawati instructed Bank Indonesia's Bali Office -- which organized the aid distribution event on the day -- to adjust the intended donations in line with the villagers' needs.

Sukawati suggested members of the public or institutions intending to provide aid or donation for the earthquake victims to coordinate with the province- or district-level Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) that will facilitate the aid distribution process.
Bank Indonesia's Bali Office Head, Trisno Nugroho, stated that donations of the day were provided by Bali's Regional Banking Consultative Group (BMPD) in collaboration with Bank Indonesia and Bali Regional Development Bank (BPD Bali).
The bank head decided to distribute the aid in person to observe the actual situation and to respond to the actual needs of the earthquake victims.
"We earlier intended to provide the same aid that we found today has been in a satisfactory condition, and as the village head said that the current need is for tin roofs, we will rearrange the aid distribution to conform to their needs," he remarked.
