How saddening it is to see intolerance in families, which turns a problem into a reason for divorce
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) Hasto Wardoyo called for bolstering the implementation of Pancasila values in families to prevent conflicts, especially those leading to divorce.

"How saddening it is to see intolerance in families, which turns a problem into a reason for divorce," Wardoyo noted at a national seminar streamed live on the BPIP RI YouTube channel on Wednesday.

In his speech, Wardoyo drew attention to the Statistics Indonesia data in 2016, 2017, and 2019 indicating a significant increase in divorce numbers from 2017 to 2018, with 374, 516 divorces recorded in 2017 and rising to 408, 202 in 2018.

Moreover, based on earlier news, the Supreme Court's Religious Court Director General Aco Nur also highlighted an increase in divorce cases during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The number of divorces in Indonesia could be reduced by increasing tolerance between family members, especially among couples, Wardoyo stated.

If the husband and wife can tolerate each other's weaknesses and work together to create a harmonious atmosphere at home, then the number of divorces in Indonesia could decrease, he emphasized.

"If they implement the value of the Pancasila ideology in households, then there would not be many divorces," he elaborated.

To this end, Pancasila can be the solution for various problems that families face that have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the advancement of technology, he stated.

Technological advancements can make family members more individualistic and erode the culture of mutual assistance, he remarked.

In addition, advances in technology could fuel hedonism and create new capitalism, he stated.

"This is all part of the deviations that I would argue about, and we should calibrate together, so that we could return to upholding the Pancasila values that harmonize family life," Wardoyo affirmed.
